One need only engage in a little light Pinterest action to fully grasp the versatility of the white tee. I am an absolute fan and I believe that whether you work in a corporate office or environmental NGO, the white tee can work for you. I have put together 3 looks using a white v-neck tee from Pick n Pay.
I have always loved a great pair of shoes. And then I became a mom and fancy gave way to sensible and sensible eventually gave way to slippers. After Sophie was born I began an 18-month long stretch as a stay at home mom. Being a stay at home means turning every penny over twice before you spend it because of a single income home ain’t for fools. And when money is tight, you push yourself very far down the list of priorities.
Eventually, I went back to work and the hangover of brokenness from the single income days lingered for so long. Then Grace was born and it was like the cycle started all over again. Long story short, it’s been a minute since I’ve put myself first and last year was the first year in many years that I treated myself to the things that make me happy. The top of that happy list is shoes.
Nowadays I might be a bit more flush but I am far from wealthy, shopping within a strict budget is a reality for me, as it is for many, many South Africans. If I can find a good deal, I’m happy, if I can find a GREAT deal, I’ll sing from the frigging rooftops.
This week, I braved those hot little fitting rooms and tried on a few dresses, so you don’t have to. I can’t explain the shameless pride I feel when I find a good bargain that looks great too, so I’m sharing a few selections everyone should own and cherry on top – they’re each under R200!
Have you ever looked at your kids wardrobes and thought, “Man, they have a truckload of $#!+?” So recently when my genius buddy, Nikki, mentioned the idea of a capsule wardrobe, my mind (and the heavens) opened. Back to school usually means back to piles and piles of laundry the size of the pyramids – this perpetual (wash) cycle of clothing heaps that never end. And switching from winter to summer wardrobes… shoot me now. A capsule wardrobe is basically a few items that are easy to mix and match to your heart’s content!
We tend to detox so many things in our lives – our bodies, our garages, our handbags, toxic friendships, but how often do we do a full closet clear out? I think it’s because so many of our purchases come with emotional attachments – reminding us of certain parts of ourselves – memories tucked into the shoes we wore on our first date, the handbag our best friend gifted us for our 21stbirthday, the waist belt we wore the night we ran away, champagne in hand, from a snooze fest of a party. Each item feels like it comes with a memory tag so it’s understandable that this is a monstrous task. But decluttering is another form of self-care – it clears mental baggage and is as important as a massage or yoga.
