5 Key Trends For A/W 2019

I once went to a Li Edelkoort talk and she said “if you think you’ve bought something on trend, that trend has already died”.

The truth is, by the time most of the fashion week trends hit mainstream stores, they’ve crested the peak of trendiness. I suppose the real question is, who cares?

I have always, (ALWAYS) believed that the only trends worth following are the ones that work for you, your body and your lifestyle. While I absolutely love fashion, I’m really quite on the fence about trendspotting and trend following. Having said that, there are a few key trends that have emerged at the various fashion weeks that excite me massively.

Let’s dive in.

Florals? In winter? Are you mad? No, friend, I am being perfectly serious. I have always felt that florals are perfectly symbolic for summer. Delicate, feminine, wispy, they just make sense as a summer print. But I fell so hard when I saw pictures from the Ellie Saab A/W collection and they featured dark, moody florals. Bring it on. Also, this is a great way to incorporate some of those summer pieces into your winter wardrobe.

All leopard everything. I am a HUGE fan of prints. I am not often brave enough to wear the I could but, if you watched our Instagram stories last week, you would know that this winter I am challenging myself to be braver when it comes to wearing bright and cold colours and prints. Leopard print is close to my heart you guys. I know it’s not for everyone, but wow, it really is for me. I was thrilled to see so much of it on the runway and thrilled by the thought of stocking up my wardrobe!

Do I even need to explain? From Chanel to Balmain, sequins featured heavily at fashion weeks across the world. I love the idea of sequin skirts, shirts and hey, even pants. But if you’re not a fan of the glitz, you’ll be happy to know that this trend played out in embellishments quite a bit too.

I haven’t yet reached my cap for high waisted skinnies. To be honest, nothing feels quite as comfy as a great pair of skinny jeans, but seeing wider legs making an appearance has left me considering all the possibilities. I have always shied away from flared pants people I just feel that they don’t work for my body shape, but maybe they’re worth a try?

Oh goodness. My love of leopard print is really an extension of my love of faux fur. Be it feathers or sheepskin, I never met a faux I didn’t like. I’m most excited about the dyed softer, blush pinks and nudes.

Are there any trends you’re looking forward to for autumn/ winter 2019? We’d love to know what you have planned for your winter wardrobe.
