I have never been this excited for a blog post before!!
Trawling fashion sites and trend report for winter boot styles, it’s clear that 2019 is the year for total boot experimentation! Designs are perfectly placed to bring out your individual style and appeal to your inner fashion risk-taker! So let’s first talk about the trends that have the fashion world abuzz.
From the New York, London and Milan Fashion Week, the winter 2019 collection is lust-worthy styles that will have your heart racing. Ankle to thigh high to cowboy to laced up, there’s a boot for everybody! Boots can be pricey with styles starting at R599 but I found a few budget buys for well under R400, and included some R699 designs. If you’re not ready to dip your toe in the adventurous pool, I’ve saved the best for last. But know, ’tis the season to express yourself so you have an excuse to be extra!
One of the most refreshing changes we saw was the cutting-edge fascination with heels. Gone are the days when only the vamp or upper part of the boot got a (re)vamp, this season’s heels are assymmetrical blocks, slanted, sculptured, contoured, cylindrical and will help you put your best foot forward. The basic boot has become a fine masterpiece with a slight influence taken from modern architecture. It’s an unexpected silhouette appealing to the conservative boot buyer looking to switch things up, or to take the time honoured classic boot to an innovative high.

SPARKLY SILVER STATEMENT
Winter 2019 begs you to put pedal to the metal and we’re swooning over these glittery declarations of individuality! It’s definitely made for evening wear but opting for muted, matte and lacquered tones such as slate, plain grey, fractured fabric or options paired with another white-hot trend – snake skin – can make these boots easily office-ready.

RED AND BLACK BOLDNESS
I cannot explain how hard I’m crushing on this trend. Red and black are iconic, timeless style, yes but unexpected stripes are a welcome bite that I’m loving. It’s biker meets everyday. As described in one of the articles I read, “Alexander McQueen’s offering is confidently wearable. Consider it elegance with an edge.” We couldn’t agree more. I can see these marrying blissfuly with opaque hefty tights or skinny black jeans.

Crocodile and snake skin as well as leopard, cheetah prints have taken the blistery season by storm and has had Nikki swooning since day one! I can’t blame her. Prints present such envy-worthy textures and luxury and will have you looking as if you’re just about to jet off to any fashion capital. It’s daring and adaptable all at once and will find its home with denim, extravagant coats, cosy cashmere, silks and satins. It’s a sure-fire way to make your feet do the talking. So indulgent, I feel like I’m sinning just by coveting them. If you’re the non adventurous type (which face it, we all are most of the time), a black boot in a snake skin texture could be the statement-making trick you’re after.

THIGH HIGH AND MIGHTY
If there’s one trend that I have wanted to try season upon season but never tried, it’s thigh-high boots. Is it just too risqué, are my legs too short, are they too limited in terms of wear? I will never know. But year after year I’ve watched them from afar much like a first crush. Worn the right way, over-the-knee boots are sophisticated and polished, and worn by people who don’t take themselves too seriously. Over winter tights with a camel coat, it’s a sumptuous dream I don’t want to wake from, so 2019 may be the year that I am brave enough. Challenge time: I will, if you will.

FEATHERS AND FLORALS, SEQUINS AND FRINGES
It’s as if designers tossed out the brief and budget this year because boots are adorned with tinsel-esque tassels, and generously strewn with sequins. Full-cover florals also made an inspiring appearance and feathers were abundant.
