(Spoiler: tons of skirts!)
It’s strange, the last time Nikki and I shared our “Week in my Wardrobe” posts, we both seemed to struggle with some sort of “personal style crisis”. Were we jeans fans? Skirt chicks? Dress aficionados? Leggings enthusiasts? We couldn’t decide. Since, I have nailed down my personal style — skirts that I can marry with knits, shirts, tees, vests, and a denim or leather jacket! It has been life-changing and eliminates the “umms” and “aahs” when getting dressed in the morning.
Before I delve into the skirts I love, I confessed that I bought yet another skirt last week! Nikki and I have talked for months about not being people who push our followers to spend recklessly. Because debt, over consumerism, etc. aren’t things we’re really comfortable asking our followers to do, we are a budget blog after all. I used to have a HUGE shopping problem (like at Canal Walk 4 times a day kind of problem!) so the important thing for me has been to find that balance between spoiling myself after months of only purchasing nappies and tiny clothes, and an unnecessary, frivolous purchase. I told myself thereafter that I had reached my R300 skirt budget for the month, another way I help to curb my spending. We’ll share more in a future post.
When it comes to my wardrobe, the one thing I can say about skirts is that this hard-working budget item allows me to dress for any weather, mood and occasion: whether needing a confidence boost for a big presentation, dialling it up for date night, or simply looking for something comfortable for the office. I have finally found an item that is figure flattering, functional as well as fashionable! And getting everything you need in one item will help you save LOADS of bucks.
These are the summer-ready styles I can’t live without — cannot. I found them at Fashion World, JAM clothing, Mr Price and Superbalist, and I’ve placed the links below.
Monday
Mondays are usually busy for me. I use it as a chance to catch up on the work I said, “F*** it, this can wait” to. So, I need something comfortable that can survive rushing from meeting room to room, and direct the attention away from the shame on my face. This Pop Art skirt from Fashion World is everything! And at just R140 I couldn’t believe my luck. (Thanks Wendy!)

Wednesday
By Hump Day, Monday’s madness of momming, working, wife’ing, freelancing, handling life’s admin and managing my side hustle has tired me out so I tend to slip into something more comfortable. That means a skirt with an elasticated waist and sneakers to keep things casual. By now you know I bought this in China Town and it’s paid for itself in compliments.

Thursday
I’ve dubbed Thursday as ‘Tumultuous Day’. I don’t know if we all collectively do a take of our achievements for the week so far, and do a last frenzied rush to tick off things on our to-do lists, but it’s a day I armour myself with an outfit that is confidence boosting.

Fri-yay I am always prepped for after-work sundowners whether I have plans are not. That is what makes skirts so versatile; they’re ready for impromptu vibes at the click of your heels.

Saturday
My life seems to be overloaded with errands and I use weekends to catch up on admin and just spend quality time with the girls.

I hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into my life and will consider adding a versatile and fabulous skirt to your wardrobe. But in a responsible way, please. Remember to ask yourself: Do I really need it? Have I reached my skirt budget for the month and can I offset my spend by donating or selling any items I no longer wear.
